Alpheus R. Klashak, 96, of Midland, formerly of Coleman, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Blessed Lord at Candlestone Assisted Living Center in Midland on April 2, 2025, in the presence of loving family.
Born in January of 1929 to parents Frederick W. and Louise (Braun) Klashak, Al is survived by wife Marjorie; and sisters Eleanor Fike of Harrison and Carol Randall of Coleman. Also surviving are children Teri Allen of Glasgow, Scotland, Steven Powell of Midland, and Ann Gee of South Carolina; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Dorrien Klashak; son Robert Klashak; and brothers-in-law Lester Fike and William Randall.
After serving his country during the Korean Conflict in the US Marine Corp, he went on to serve in the US Air Force Reserves. He attended Michigan State University and went on to pioneer in the field of occupational safety in the role of Safety Engineer. He was largely self-taught in the field, having worked in the mining and construction industries. His knowledge and experience contributed to his transition into legal consulting work and eventually became instrumental in helping OSHA develop State and Federal safety regulations.
His hobbies included hunting and fishing, building and flying R.C. aircrafts, and wood carving. After returning to Michigan in 1987, he became active in Kiwassee Kiwanis and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. He was also a long-time member of Aldersgate Church in Midland and lived in his faith.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Candlestone Assisted Living and all the Hospice Care team for their loving care.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Aldersgate Church, 2206 Airfield Lane, Midland. Memorial visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. before the service at church.
